Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said government plans to make it mandatory to set aside one per cent of total cost of any highway project for road safety. <br/><br/>Speaking in New Delhi yesterday, Mr. Gadkari said this money will used for road safety issues that include fixing accidental spots, installing cameras, lights and on other such issues. <br/><br/>Mr. Gadkari said the government is committed to reducing the number of road accidents and fatalities by 50 per cent in next two to three years. He said road accidents cause an annual loss equivalent to three per cent of the GDP.
