<span style="color: #222222;">The Government has planned to develop and operationalize 220 airports, heliports and water aerodromes in the next five years. In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia informed that till 2014, there were 74 airports with scheduled operations in the country and at present, &nbsp;the number of operational airports is 141 including 8 heliports and two water aerodromes. He said, increasing airport capacity is a continuous process and is undertaken by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and concerned private operators from time to time depending on the availability of land, commercial viability, socio-economic considerations and traffic demand.<br />''<br />''Mr. Scindia also informed that the aircraft fleet before &nbsp;2014 was 410 which has now increased to &nbsp;686. He added that the aircraft fleet is expected to grow in the range of 10 to 12 percent in the coming years.</span><br />
