Govt orders inquiry into Jamwal’s death

Government has ordered an inquiry into the death of the Southern Naval Command chief Rear Admiral Satyendra Singh Jamwal. He was killed in an accidental firing in the small arms firing range at INS Dronacharya, Kochi this morning. <br/><br/>Talking to All India Radio in New Delhi, Navy spokesperson commander P.V.Satish said , investigation is on and the details are awaited. <br/><br/>An acclaimed and well decorated officer, Rear Admiral Jamwal was commissioned in the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer in 1980 and had specialized in Anti Submarine Warfare. He was an alumnus of Lawrence School Sanawar, National Defence Academy, Grechko Naval War College USSR, Defence Services Staff College Wellington and Army War College. <br/><br/>His appointments included tenures on Indian Naval Ships Taragiri, Atul, Rajput, Ranvijay and Command of Ships Vibhuti and Kuthar, Commissioning Executive Officer of Guided Missile Destroyer Delhi and Commissioning Commanding Officer of Guided Missile Frigate Beas. Rear Admiral Jamwal, 51, was the second in command in the navy in the Southern Command. He is survived by wife and two children.
