The stalemate between the Opposition and the Government over the two issues of MPs salary and passing of the Medical Council of India Amendment Bill has been resolved without discussion. This followed a meeting convened by the Leader of the Lok Sabha Pranab Mukherjee with the leaders of opposition parties this morning. The two issues had rocked the Lok Sabha on Friday leading to its repeated adjournments. As the house met today, JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav said that a consensus had been arrived at on both these issues. Yadav said since the Medical Council Bill had already been and the same could not be undone, it was agreed that the issue could be discussed later.Several MPs belonging to the RJD, Samajwadi Party and some other parties had protested against the Cabinet decision to enhance the MPs salary to Rs 50,000 per month. They said the Government should accept the recommendations of the Joint Committee of Parliament to enhance their monthly salary to Rs 80,000 and one over and above the salary of a Secretary in the Central Government. It was agreed Mukherjee will take into consideration the sentiments of the members.Later, the House took up Zero Hour as there was no Question Hour today. The House is sitting on a Saturday as the members wanted a holiday on Monday in view of the two forthcoming festivals of Onam and Raksha Bandhan.
