Government is open to make improvements in the Nuclear Liability Bill. Official sources said that the improvements in the Bill would be based on the suggestions of the Standing Committee. The Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha in the Budget Session of Parliament and has been referred to a Standing Committee of Parliament. AIR correspondent reports that the Nuclear Liability Bill was prepared keeping in mind the long-term scenario while envisaging the possibility of private companies entering the nuclear power generation sector. The proposed legislation is being opposed by several political parties on the grounds that it caps the liability of the operator at a level that does not adequately compensate damages in case of a nuclear accident.<br/>
