Government of India will provide financial support for construction of Cold Storage Facility in Dang District of Nepal. A Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) for construction of a five storey cold storage facility at Lamahi municipality in Dang District was signed last week. <br/><br/>The Government of India under its Small Development Programme Scheme has committed total financial support of 46 million Nepalese rupees for the project. This will be fifth such developmental project funded by the Government of India in Dang District.<br/><br/> The farmers in this area are largely dependent on agriculture for their livelihood and have been facing problems in proper handling and storage of their perishable agricultural produce. The lack of proper storage facility resulted in forced selling of the produce by the farmers causing them avoidable financial losses. <br/><br/>The new cold storage facility would enable the farmers to store their produce and get better prices. It will also enhance their income levels and help in improving living standard of their families. The Ministry of Agriculture, Government of Nepal has also committed its support to the project. <br/><br/>According to MoU, the Lamahi Municipality would prepare a work schedule, invite tenders for the construction of the project in 15 months and get the project completed in time. <br/><br/>A committee would monitor the project and regularly submit the progress report to the Embassy of India, Kathmandu. The Embassy shall release the funds as per the physical progress of the project.<br/><br/> In addition to this, construction of four projects in Dang has been completed with the support of the Government of India. Additionally, the Government of India has, in the past, provided 13 ambulances and 02 buses recognising the need of the people of the district.<br/>Under India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme, the Government of India has been providing financial assistance for various large and small development projects in different parts of Nepal. <br/><br/>These developmental projects, mainly in the sectors of education, health and infrastructure have been undertaken in response to local needs and in partnership with the Government of Nepal.
