Govt. notifies rules to implement nuke liability law

The government has notified rules to implement nuclear liability law. The rule gives the nuclear plant operator the right to recourse for the period for which the supplier of equipments has taken liability for patent or latent defects or sub-standard service under a contract.

But the foreign suppliers of nuclear materials to Indian Nuclear power plant would not be held responsible for accidents caused by defective equipments supplied by them if it take place after a guarantee period specified by them.

Therefore, the operator of the nuclear power plant concern have no right of recourse against the supplier after this period is over.

The civil liability for nuclear damage act commonly known as nuclear liability act was passed by Parliament in August last year.

The notification for nuclear liability law paved the way for its operationalisation.
