Government has notified the imposition of infrastructure cess of up to 2.5 per cent on passenger vehicles, which was announced in Budget 2016-17. Central Board of Excise and Customs yesterday said in notification that vehicles using petrol, LPG or CNG fuels with engine capacity not exceeding 1,200cc and length less than 4,000 mm will attract cess of one per cent. <br/><br/>It further said a 2.5 per cent cess has been imposed on diesel vehicles with engine capacity not exceeding 1500cc and length not exceeding 4,000 mm. As per notification, ambulances, taxis, electric vehicles, including three-wheelers, hybrid vehicles, cars for physically handicapped persons, Hydrogen vehicles based on fuel cell technology are exempted from the levy.
