Govt not to dilute RTI Act at any cost says V Narayansamy

The government says, it will not dilute Right to Informance Act at any cost. The assurance was given by Minister of State in Prime Minister Office, V Narayansamy. He said necessary amendments in the Act will be introduced in the winter session of Parliament but RTI will not be diluted. He was addressing the Valedictory Session of the 7th Annual Convention of ushering in the RTI in New Delhi.
Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar cautioned that while Information Commissions have wide ranging powers to impose penalties for failure to comply with this Act, they should strike a balance between public good and private interests.

She asserted that the Act has undoubtedly assisted the people in making informed choices and in better exercise of their democratic rights. It has enhanced their ability to demand open, transparent and accountable governance. She said , the Act has also geared the administrative machinery to serve public better raising its credibility with the citizens.
