Govt not taken adequate measures to tame price rise: Opposition

Opposition today strongly pleaded with the government to take measures to tame inflation and reverse the hike in the petroleum prices. <br/><br/>Participating in the discussion on the finance bill in the Lok Sabha, they alleged that government has not taken adequate measures to address the issue of price rise. <br/><br/>They called for taking effective steps to ensure transparent implementation of flagship programmes with enhanced allocation for speedy development and inclusive growth. Members from Left, BJP, Shiv Sena, JDU, SP, RJD and BSP participated in the discussion. <br/><br/>Ruling ally Trinamool Congress demanded acceleration in developmental process in Naxal affected areas while as the Congress members hailed the budget proposals and advocated to increase allocations for health, education, and rural development for all round development. The discussion is continuing.<br/><br/>The Finance Minister Mr Pranab Mukherjee will reply the debate later this evening. While introducing the Finance Bill in the Lok Sabha yesterday, he hinted that some fresh relief to some sectors is likely to be announced. <br/><br/>Opposition has been demanding review of the proposal to levy service tax in the housing sector. <br/><br/>Mr Mukherjee had also made it clear that the prices of food items have started coming down and are expected to come down further with the hope of a good rabi crop.
