Govt not in favour of adjourning houses sine die before its scheduled date

The Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Narayanasamy reiterated that the government is not in favour of adjourning both the houses of Parliament sine die before its scheduled date. Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, he also maintained the stand of the government that it will not accept the opposition demand for JPC. In reply to a question on the introduction of Women's Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha, Mr. Narayanasamy said that the government wants to take other parties on board on the issue. The Bill, providing 33 per cent reservation of seats in the Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies for women, had already been passed in the Rajya Sabha earlier this year. The Bill, however, could not be introduced in the Lok Sabha due to stiff opposition from several parties including RJD, Samajwadi party and JD(U).
