The government on Thursday said at present, there is no proposal to extend the pension scheme to meritorious sportspersons to medal winners in national championships. The Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr Ajay Maken said this in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha. He said under the scheme of pension to meritorious sportspersons, pension is given to only those sportspersons, who have won medal in Olympic Games, World Championships, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Paralympic Games. The Minister said that his ministry gives incentives such as cash awards and pension to sportspersons who excel in international sports events.
