Govt needs to give serious thought to foodgrains export: Pawar

Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar today said the government needs to give serious thought on storage, allocation of foodgrains to states and exports, as the country is estimated to have harvested record production this crop year. He told reporters that this year's production is highest ever since 1947 and there should not be any problem. He said that India's foodgrains production is estimated at a record 235.88 million tonnes in the 2010-11 crop year, ending June, on the back of the highest-ever output of wheat and pulses. Mr.Pawar quoted a report by the Commission for Agriculture Costs and Prices (CACP), which said that the stock position of wheat is quite impressive and is worth 40,000 crore rupees currently. Earlier, he inaugurated the National conference on Advance estimates of production of major crops in the country. Police makers and agriculture experts are participating in the conference.
