The Lok Sabha Speaker, Mrs Meira Kumar today said that the security of the Members of Parliament is important and the government should take necessary action in this regard. Her observations came when the issue of threats to MPs and their relatives from Maoists and other extremist elements was raised during the Zero Hour in the house. The Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mr. Ajay Maken said that the security cover is provided to MPs on the basis of inputs received from the different agencies. Mr Sharad Yadav of JD(U) who took up the issue said that the brother of an MP was murdered in Chhattisgarh and political activists are facing threats and attacks from Naxals in Jharkhand as well. His party colleague Sushil Kumar Singh said that he himself has been threatened and asked the government to give protection.
