Govt mulls process for speedy green clearances

Modern Coal exploration and extraction techniques and speedy environment clearances have been emphasised to increase coal and power sector productivity in the country. The two-day National Seminar over enhancing the production and productivity of coal, power and allied sectors begun in Delhi today. Speakers expressed concerns over the increasing gap between demand and supply in these sectors.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary in Coal Ministry Alok Perti called for evolving a method to obtain early environment clearances for new coal mines especially in forest areas. Stating that measures have been taken to increase efficiency of power units for optimum utilization of coal resources during 12th plan period, he underlined the need for scientific coal grading based on heat values.

Speeding up coal extraction and bringing new mines into operation and time bound action plans to energies processes, techniques and technology upgradation have also been emphasised for robust growth in coal sector.
