Govt mulling amending law to make human trafficking more stringent

The government is considering to amend the law to make human trafficking more stringent. Replying to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said, unregistered agencies are not allowed to recruit domestic women workers abroad. She said, only agencies registered with the Centre are allowed for this purpose. <br/><br/>Ms Swaraj said, the Centre has been writing to all state governments from time to time to take action against fraudulent and illegal recruitment agents. She said, whenever a complaint is received against any unregistered recruiting agents, it is forwarded to Secretary of the concerned State Government for action. <br/><br/>The Minister said, the government has also started an on-line programme 'Madad' which includes a helpline for lodging grievances of emigrants. She said, the government has set up Indian Community Welfare Fund in all the Indian Missions and consulates abroad to meet contingency expenditure incurred by them for carrying out various welfare activities for overseas Indians in distress.
