In Karnataka, the leader of the Opposition in Legislative Assembly, Siddaramaiah has sought waiver of loans and compensation for crop loss to farmers severely affected by drought. Speaking in the Assembly today, he charged that the measures taken by the Government to provide solace to drought affected farmers is far from sufficient. Suggesting remedies to tackle the crisis, he suggested creation of jobs under MGNREGA, increase cow sheds from 77 to 700.He also suggested that the fodder should be distributed free of cost as the rate of fodder has reached 10,000 rupees per tonne. He asked the Agriculture department to fill up 4100 posts lying vacant and stressed on the need to strengthen Farmers' Information Centres. He pointed out that the Action plan of 2590 crore rupees, prepared by the Government for providing drinking water at rural areas, remains on paper since last year
