Govt. may import wheat & rice to bridge the gap in demand & supply

Government says, it will import rice and wheat if need be to bridge the gap between the demand and supply. The Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee however said it has adequate stocks of wheat and rice for now.Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi,Mr Mukherjee said as on October 1, the government has six million tonnes of rice stocks and seven million tonnes of wheat.Mr Mukherjee, however, declined to indicate the quantum of imports, or their timing.<br/>
