The Government is making all possible efforts to create employment opportunities for every section of the society living in rural and urban areas. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, the Union Minister for Labour and Employment Mallikarjun Kharge said that government is implementing various employment generation schemes including Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme and Swarana Jayanti Shahari Rojgar Yojana.
He said that apart from these schemes the Ministry of micro, Small and Medium Enterprises is also implementing Entrepreneurial Development Programmes for the youth to create employment. The Minister said that during the year 2004 to 2010 about 20 million employment opportunities were generated. However, the target during 11th Plan period is 58 million.
