Government is making concerted efforts to augment domestic coal production from public sector coal companies and captive blocks. Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal in New Delhi on Thursday said that the captive mine policy for augmenting domestic production has not yielded desired results so far. He said that Government is trying to evolve a consensus on commercial coal mining as part of energy sector reforms. He added that effective measures are being taken by the government for better pricing and development of coal sector in the country. The Minister informed that the Centre has initiated the process to acquire foreign coal companies in order to meet the coal demand of the country.
