Govt. makes elaborate arrangements of security for World Cup Hockey tournament

The government has made elaborate arrangements of security for the World Cup Hockey tournament to be played in New Delhi. Over two hundred commandos and 1000-odd personnel of central para military forces will be deployed in the national capital for ensuring a smooth conduct of the game. Hockey World Cup is being held in India after a gap of 18 years. AIR correspondent quoting sources in the Home Ministry reports commandos especially skilled in sharp shooting will man high rise buildings around the venue-National Stadium-near the famous India Gate. Ten companies of central para military forces will be deployed in the city during the tournament beginning on the 28th of this month and continuing till 13 March. The tournament will see participation by 10 countries and around 400 players and delegates. Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal on Tuesday said, there is no threat to the mega events like Hockey World Cup and Commonwealth Games. He said elaborate measures have been taken to ensure fool proof security during the games. The last Hockey World Cup was held in India in 1982 at Mumbai.
