The government has been making efforts to promote self regulation in print and electronic media for their content. It has been stated in a written reply in the Lok Sabha by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting C.M. Jatua.
He said that Indian Broadcasting Foundation has set up Broadcast Content Complaints Council for regulating general entertainment channels and News Broadcasters Association has formed News Broadcasting Standard Authority as part of the self regulatory mechanism. He said Advertisement Standard Council of India has also developed a code of conduct for self regulation in advertising.
The Minister informed that 53 newspapers have been deregistered during the last three years and the current year till now. As regards, satellite TV channels, two companies have requested to withdraw their permission for their one channel each.
