The government has lowered the minimum export price of onion by 100 US dollars a tonne to 150 US dollars per tonne to boost outbound shipments which have declined.
A notification by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, DGFT said that the minimum export price of all varieties of onions except Bangalore Rose onions and Krishnapuram onions will be 150 US dollars per tonne.
It also said that the export price of Bangalore Rose and Krishnapuram onions have also been reduced marginally to 250 US dollars a tonne from 300 US dollars a tonne earlier.
Onion growers and traders have been demanding a slash in the export price to keep the commodity competitive in the international market.
