Govt likely to carry out Phase III expansion of FM radio

The Government intends to carry out Phase III expansion of FM radio in the current financial year to bring in more revenue. Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley said this in New Delhi today. Talking to PTI, he said that some aspects are being considered in this regard between the ministry and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India,TRAI. He also expressed hope that the expansion will take place soon. Mr Jaitley also said, the government is considering the idea of allowing broadcast of news on private FM radio stations. Under phase III, more than 800 new FM radio channels are proposed to be allowed to come up in nearly 294 cities across the country.
