Govt lifts ban on export of onions

An Empowered Group of Ministers, EGoM on Food headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has lifted the ban over the export of onion. The meeting also fixed the Minimum Export Price of onions at 475 dollars a tonne. On the 9th of this month, the ministerial panel banned onion exports to boost domestic supply and control rising retail prices which had gone abnormally high. Minister of State Food K V Thomas said that he has been assured that prices of onion in domestic markets will not go up.
