Govt launches Swachh Swasth Sarvatra initiative

Government today launched Swachh Swasth Sarvatra initiative, aiming at strengthening health centres in open defecation-free blocks. Launching this initiative in New Delhi, Health Ministry J P Nadda said, the objective of this initiative is to strengthen community health centres in 708 Open Defecation free blocks across the country to enable them to achieve higher levels of cleanliness and hygiene. He said, his Ministry has joined hands with Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation to achieve better health outcomes through improved sanitation and increased awareness on healthy lifestyles. <br/><br/>Mr Nadda also said, under the programme, 10 lakh rupees of financial assistance will be given to the community health centres so that they can be strengthened to meet the standards of sanitation, hygiene and infection control.<br/><br/>The programme Swachh Swasth Sarvatra is a part of the Swachh Bharat Mission and is focused on the twin objectives of constructing toilets and enabling behavioural change. Government has set a target to make India Open Defecation free by 2nd October, 2019. <br/>Health Minister J P Nadda and Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar also jointly launched a booklet- Healthy Children Healthy India. The booklet contains tips on leading a healthy life for children. Mr Nadda said, he has written a letter to the states and urged them to distribute the booklet in regional languages.
