Govt. launches NRLM in Odisha

The Centre sponsored National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) was launched in Odisha on Monday. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik kicked off the programme at Bhubaneswar. 81 lakh rural households would be benefitted through Self-Help Groups (SHGs). According to official sources, NRLM, a restructured version of Centre's Swarna Jayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SJGSY), a major poverty allievation programme of the Central Government, will be implementated all over Odisha in a phased manner. It will adopt a multi-pronged strategy to reduce poverty by enabling the poor households to acess gainful self-employment and skilled wage employment opportunities.Major thrust will be given on building strong institutions of the poor. Women Self Help Groups and their federations will receive benefits and services to improve socio-economic conditions. Efforts are also being made to include all the poor women in the villages of Odisha under NRLM by 2017.
