The government today launched a web portal for basic citizen services like driving license and vehicle registration. Launching the portal, www.parivahan.gov.in, Minister for Road transport and Highways, C P Joshi said the common man can use it. Mr Joshi said this is a landmark step in e-governance project. He also inaugurated the national register, which will create a data bank of all vehicles in the country. AIR correspondent reports, the national register has been created from the state registers under National Transport Project to act as a central repository of all crucial data. Mr Joshi said it will provide basic citizen centric services to people anytime and anywhere in the country. The portal connects 975 regional transport offices of the country.
