Govt launches Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Suraksha Yojana

The Government has launched a scheme called, Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Suraksha Yojana, for Indian workers holding Emigration Check Required, ECR, passports and a valid work permit in an ECR country. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today the Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs, Vayalar Ravi said that this scheme encourages and enables Overseas Indian workers to save for their return and resettlement and to save for their old age by providing a co-contribution from the government.

He said the scheme also provides a free Life Insurance Cover against natural death. He however said there is no proposal to introduce a special package for Indian workers returning to India from conflict-ridden countries.
