In its effort to make the rural areas of the country technologically advanced, government today launched Indian Language Technology Proliferation and Deployment Centre (ILTPDC). This will open the doors to a new phase in language technology development. Launching the portal in New Delhi, Communication and IT Minister A Raja said that accessibility to relevant information in local languages is important for E-Governance to succeed in the country. Minister of State for Communication and IT, Mr Sachin Pilot emphasised on the importance of support from all stake holders particularly the State Governments for effective implementation of National E-Governance Plan. He added that ILTPDC will help proliferate the usage of technology into the far fetched rural areas of the country. AIR correspondent reports that ILTPDC offer a host of services to users which include English to Indian language translation, Indian language to Indian Language Translation and other linguistic resources and tools for research purposes. Policy on Open Standards For E-Governance and Biometric Standards for E-Governance were also launched.
