Govt launches dedicated e-commerce Centre in Delhi

Communication and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today launched a dedicated e-commerce Centre in New Delhi to cater the e-commerce business enterprises. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Prasad said, e-commerce business has grown up to 70 thousand crore rupees and with the capacity of handling 30 thousand parcels per day this dedicated Centre will play a crucial role in e-business. He said, government is revamping the postal sector with the help of information technology and government is using the postal network to bridge the urban and rural digital gap. The Minister said, postal payment banking facility proposal is under consultation with Reserve Bank of India and it will be launched soon. Expressing displeasure over concentration of IT sector in few pockets of the country, Mr Prasad said, government is aiming to create opportunities for BPO sector in small and medium towns and will allot BPO centres to states. During the occasion, the Minister also launched the Mobile Application of India Post.
