Health minister J P Nadda today emphasized that government accords a very high priority for increasing donation of cadaver organs to bridge the gap between the demand and supply. Replying to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha, Mr Nadda said there is a huge gap between the demand for and supply of human organs for transplantation.<br/> <br/>The minister said while there is requirement of over two lakh kidney transplantations, only 6,000 are available. Mr Nadda said there is only 15 heart transplant available where as the demand is 50,000. The minister said government is keen to promote donation of organs from deceased persons and has sought suggestions from public at large and other stakeholders and a notice has been placed on the website https://www.notto.nic.in. Mr Nadda said the importance of organ donation has been highlighted by Prime minister's Mann ki Baat programme in All India Radio . He said the government has also sanctioned financial assistance for establishing four Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (ROTTO) in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Assam and Chandigarh to carry out awareness and training of transplant coordinators. Mr Nadda said the government has also decided to award best performing state and best NCO working in organ donation.<br/><br/>Replying to another question, Mr Nadda said the number of patients visiting the central government hospitals for treatment is much more as compared to their handling capacity in terms of number of beds, manpower and other resources. He said AIIMS and Safdarjung hospitals in Delhi are not only attending to the patients of the city but also patients from neighbouring states. The minister informed the House that Online Registration System has been introduced from July 1st 2015 and 11 central government hospitals are using this facility.
