Government today said that various fuel conservation and energy efficiency activities for effective utilisation of fuel are being undertaken on an ongoing basis to reduce the fuel consumption and conserve petroleum wealth. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today, Minister of State for Petroleum Rameswar Teli said, these include training and workshops in Industrial units, training for drivers, awareness campaigns, extensive media campaigns in social media, TV, Radio and promoting research and development aimed at petroleum conservation. He said, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is taking various steps to reduce India's dependence on imported crude oil, such as increasing domestic production of crude oil and natural gas, promoting biofuels and renewables, promoting energy efficiency and conservation measures, reducing imports through improvement in refinery process, adopting demand substitution measures and creating favourable environment for additional investment through facilitating policy changes.
