Petroleum and Natural Gas minister Dharmendra Pradhan today said the government is taking many policy initiatives to encourage production of oil and gas for meeting domestic demand. Replying to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha, Mr Pradhan said setting up of National Data Repository, Appraisal of Unappraised area in Sedimentary Basin and Reassessment of Hydrocarbon resources are some few steps in this direction. The Minister told the House that in order to enhance recovery from ageing fields, oil companies are implementing new technologies.<br/><br/>The Minister said, there are a total 8,169 flowing and non flowing oil wells in the country. He said, the oil companies are taking several measures to revive the sick wells to increase oil production such as Improved Oil Recovery and Enhanced Oil Recovery Schemes.
