Govt is making efforts to strengthen rural medical infrastructure: Prez

President Pranab Mukherjee has said that the government is making efforts to strengthen the rural medical infrastructure with an objective to maintain mental and physical health of the people during the process of socio-economic development.

He said, doctors and paramedics are needed in more numbers for preserving the health of the people.

To meet this goal super-specialty hospitals are being built by increasing the number of medical colleges and their admission quota, President said.
He was speaking after inaugurating Ashwini Rural Medical College and Research Center at Kumbhari near Solapur on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion Union Minister for Health Ghulam Nabi Azad said that UPA government has focused upon health care of the 75 per cent rural population in the country.

Chief Minister of Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan and other dignitaries were present on the occasion. The President has now arrived in Pune to attend the inaugural function of D. Y. Patil Knowledge City Center.
