The Congress President Mrs. Sonia Gandhi has said that government is in the process of setting up several institutes like All India Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS, across the country to ensure better health services to the common man.
Addressing the 39th convocation at AIIMS in New Delhi on Wednesday, she said, to strengthen health services, it is important to increase the number of health specialty institutes in the country. Mrs Gandhi said, there is acute shortage of health professionals to take care of the vast populace of the country.
Expressing concern over the immigration of the doctors, Mrs. Gandhi urged the upcoming doctors to remain in the country. Mrs Gandhi said that millions of people die due to the preventable diseases. She asserted that young physicians can play a better role to counter the diseases.
Mrs Sonia Gandhi and Minister for Health, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad also awarded degrees to 465 students on the occasion.
