Government is hopeful that there will be a consensus among states on the Goods and Services Tax, GST. The Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers, headed by West Bengal Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta is meeting in Goa today to have another round of discussions on the issue. Revenue Secretary Sunil Mitra while addressing a conference in New Delhi said that the committee will discuss threadbare the Constitutional Amendment Draft for GST. He said that the consensus of States has to be acceptable to Centre. Mr Mitra also outlined the issues of contention among the states. He said that apart from fear of loss of autonomy, other issues include tax rates and items to be exempted from GST besides revenue loss.
