Govt invites public comments on National Food Security Bill draft

Government has invited public comments on the draft of National Food Security Bill. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Food Distribution on Wednesday placed the draft bill on its website. The salient features of the bill include the coverage of three fourth of the rural population and half of urban households.

Proposed monthly entitlement for each person in the bill is 7 kilogram of food grains. The Government has also proposed three rupees a Kg rice while two rupees a Kg wheat for the priority households.

The bill also includes legal right for the people living in starving conditions to take home ration. The Ministry has prepared the draft after consultations with various departments including National Advisory Council and Economic Advisory Council (EAC) to the Prime Minister.
