Govt introduces bill to improve road safety in Lok Sabha

Government today introduced the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill -2016 in the Lok Sabha. The Bill is aimed at improving the road safety in the country and proposes to increase penalties against traffic violations to as deterrent measure. It also has strict provisions for offences like juvenile driving, drunken driving and driving without licence. <br/><br/>Earlier, opposition parties objected to the moving the bill saying it has not been circulated to members well within the time. Reacting to it, Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said the bill is very important as several people are losing their lives due to road accidents every day. He said the bill has been brought after the wide consultations with state Transport Ministers. According to a data, every year 5 lakh road accidents are reported in the country in which 1.5 lakh people lose their lives.
