Govt introduce performance Monitoring and Evaluation System for enhancing efficacy of its depts

The Government has introduced a performance Monitoring and Evaluation System for enhancing the efficacy of its departments. Cabinet Secretary K.M Chanderasekhar today revealed that it has been done to meet the challenges of global competitiveness. He said this while addressing the inaugural session of a two day SAARC Workshop on Government Performance Management in New Delhi. Elaborating the theme of the workshop Mr. Chanderasekhar said, enhanced government effectiveness not only affects the welfare of citizens in the short run but also in the long-run. <br/><br/>The Cabinet Secretary noted that in the increasingly globalized world, government effectiveness is the key determinant of a country's competitive advantage. Quoting experts, he said that in the long run, race among nations will be won or lost not on the basis of comparative advantage arising from resource endowment, but by the competitive avantage created by effective government. <br/><br/>Our correspondent reports the brain storming session is to focus on building mechanisms towards effective, efficient and transparent governance across the SAARC nations. <br/><br/>The Prominent dignitaries attending the workshop includes Secretary General of SAARC, Sheel Kant Sharma besides the senior officials from India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
