Govt intends to encourage investment for highway projects

The government intends to encourage investment for highway projects in the country. Transport and Highways Minister C.P. Joshi gave this information in the Lok Sabha today. He said, to attract foreign investors in this sector he visited many countries to meet the investors and apprised them of project opportunities in India. Delegations of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways have conducted road shows abroad to explain the government policy and
guidelines to foreign investors. Mr. Joshi said the government has announced the setting up of Infrastructure Debt Funds to provide long-term, low-cost debt for infrastructure projects. The funds would allow infrastructure developers access to domestic and offshore investors on a long-term basis. Many foreign companies have successfully participated in the award process for developing highways in the country, he said.
