Govt: Indian atomic power reactors are best & safest in world

The government has said Indian atomic power reactors are the best and the safest in the world. Replying to supplementaries during the question hour in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State in the PMO, V. Narayanasami said the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has certified that all the 20 atomic power reactors in the country are very safe. He said the certificate was given by IAEA after inspection by the officials of the Agency along with the officials of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL).

Referring to the proposed Jaitapur Atomic Power Plant in Maharashtra, Mr Narayanasami said New Delhi has negotiated with the French government to provide the upgraded reactor for the proposed plant. He ruled out any adverse affect due to the proposed atomic plant at Jaitapur on the people in the surrounding areas.
