Govt in talks with foreign countries for more nuclear power plants

The Government is negotiating with foreign countries for the establishment of more new nuclear power plants and for the supply of fuel. Minister of State for Personnel and Prime Minister's Office Dr. Jitendra Singh informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply today that Kudankulam expansion project is being readied for launch in the current year with technical cooperation of Russia. He said discussions between Nuclear Power Corporation Of India Limited and companies of France and USA are on for setting up large capacity nuclear plants. Dr. Singh said that a final decision in this regard will be taken after the outcome of these discussions. Dr. Singh said that agreements and Memorandum of Understanding have been signed with France, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Canada for supply of Uranium to India.
