The Government has identified sites for five nuclear power plants to augment energy resources. Five Light Water Reactor based nuclear power plants in cooperation with France, Russia and the United States will be set up soon. While, the reactor in Jaitapur in Maharashtra will be set up in cooperation with France , in Kudankulam Tamil Nadu and Haripur in West Bengal they will be set up in cooperation with Russia and Chhayamithi Virdi in Gujarat and Kovvada in Andhra Pradesh in cooperation with the United States .<br/><br/>Earlier India’s Separation Plan to IAEA under which 14 of its 22 Nuclear reactors will be placed under safeguards by 2014 was notified. This is a crucial step in paving the way for the implementation of international civil nuclear cooperation.<br/><br/>India has already signed civil nuclear energy agreements with seven countries.
