Govt holds meeting to discuss measures to control air pollution in Delhi

Government today held a meeting to discuss measures to control air pollution in Delhi NCR. The meeting was held by Secretary, Environment Ministry, Ajay Narayan Jha, with senior officers from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab and NCT of Delhi. <br/><br/>After detailed deliberations, the State government representatives unanimously agreed on the need to take immediate measures to control air pollution.<br/><br/>It was agreed to further intensify action against visibly polluting vehicles, overloading vehicles and vehicles parked against non-designated areas. Lane discipline will be enforced and the Pollution Under Control regimes will be further strengthened. <br/><br/>The State governments agreed to immediately undertake sprinkling of water on dusty roads, introduce wet/mechanized vacuum sweeping of roads, and maintain pothole free roads among other steps. State governments agreed to examine closing of brick kilns operating on obsolete technologies during the winter season. <br/><br/>The Delhi Government will ensure that the Badarpur Thermal Power Plant will take all the required steps to prevent suspension of fly ash accumulated over an area of 280 acre in the premises of the plant. Punjab and Haryana have been advised to set up bio-mass power plants in large numbers.
