Govt has taken more actions to curb black money than any time in past: Jaitley

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said the Centre in the last three years has taken more actions than any time in the past to curb black money in the country. Responding to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha, he said the Foreign Exchange Management Act, Prevention of Money Laundering Act PMLA and the Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets) and Imposition of Tax Act have been amended to make them more stringent.

Mr. Jaitley also said that India has signed extradition treaties with many countries to bring economic offenders who escape after committing the offences. In an apparent reference to the extradition of Vijay Mallya from the UK, Mr Jaitley said the prosecution agencies are pursuing the case. The minister informed the Lok Sabha that during his recent trip to the United Kingdom, he also took up the case with his UK counterpart.
