The government has no proposal to increase user charges at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS, for diagnostics and therapeutic services to Out Patient Department, OPD, or general patients. Health and Family Welfare minister Ghulam Nabi Azad gave this information in a written reply to the Lok Sabha today. Mr Azad said all diagnostics procedures including endoscopy, biopsy, CT scan and other tests are done free of cost for Below Poverty Line (BPL) poor patients at AIIMS, North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, Shillong, Lady Hardinge Medical College and S.K. Hospital and Safdarjang Hospital, New Delhi, National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, Bangalore and Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry. He added some of the hospitals also provide these services to poor patients either free of cost or on nominal rates.
