The government today said, there is no proposal to reduce the subsidy on fertilizers and no plans to revise the price of urea. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Chemical and Fertilizers Minister Ananth Kumar said, the government is promoting the use of Neem Coated urea which has high nutrient use efficiency over plain urea. <br/><br/>He said, the Centre is also promoting adoption of Soil test based site specific integrated nutrient management envisaging conjunctive use of both inorganic and organic source of plant nutrients like bio-fertilizers and locally available organic manures to ensure judicious use of fertilizers.<br/><br/>Mr Kumar also said, the requirement of urea for the year 2015-16 was 313.35 lakh metric tons while domestic production was 244.75 lakh metric tons. He said, to meet the demand supply gap, the shortfall is met through imports.
