Food Minister K V Thomas said, in principle government has no objection to permit further export of sugar. Addressing a function in New Delhi on Thursday, Thomas said, it will help faster clearance of cane price arrears and help earn some precious foreign exchange. He said, government policies relating to sugar export are aimed at balancing the interest of consumers, farmers and the industry.The Food Minister assured that while reviewing sugar export policy, his Ministry will be fair to all stakeholders.On decontrol of sugar, the Minister added that while the request of the industry has been almost met, it is incumbent on the industry to ensure that all pending levy sugar obligations are cleared at the earliest.Thomas said, if there is any issue, it may be taken up with the Department of Food for early reconciliation.
