Govt got positive response from ULFA: Gogoi

A day after the Union Home Minister Mr P. Chidambaram hinted that talks with ULFA could happen soon, Assam chief minister Mr Tarun Gogoi said that the government has received a positive response from the outfit for holding a dialogue to end insurgency in the state. The chief minister said he was quite hopeful that the much-awaited talks with ULFA would start in the New Year in order to bring lasting peace to the trouble-torn state.<br/>The Union Home Minister Mr Chidambaram on Thursday has said the Centre would talk to ULFA if it laid down its demand for sovereignty and he is expecting good news in days to come.<br/>Echoing Union Home Minister, Mr Gogoi said sovereignty could not be on the talks agenda. There is no point wasting time discussing sovereignty, which the government cannot concede. Moreover, the people of Assam have rejected ULFA’s sovereignty demand and the successive successful elections in the state are an indicator.
